Giving to Cerro Coso

About the Cerro Coso Community College Foundation

Mission Statement

The Cerro Coso Community College Foundation, founded in 1977, is a non-profit corporation organized under California law to receive scholarships, loan funds, and gifts on behalf of Cerro Coso Community College. The Foundation as an auxiliary arm of the College assists and supports in the attainment of Cerro Coso's cultural and technical goals, and in the fulfillment of its role in serving the community of which it is a part.

Primary Purpose

To promote the welfare of Cerro Coso Community College:

  1. by creating a public awareness of its needs;
  2. by supporting its programs, activities and educational services;
  3. and by serving as a channel for conveying to the College gifts to use in areas where general funds either cannot be used or are inadequate.

Background

Cerro Coso Community College was founded in 1973 as a separate college in the Kern Community College District. It is a physical site, an attitude, and a major element of our growth as a well-rounded community.

The College serves a geographical area of 18,000 square miles which forms the largest service area of any community college in California. The College has 5 instructional sites with the largest site in the Indian Wells Valley, the Eastern Sierra College Center with two beautiful new facilities in Bishop and Mammoth, the Kern River Valley Campus and the South Kern Campus. The 5 campuses serve a population of 85,000 and that population is expanding with the dynamic CC On-line Campus which offers 100+ classes each semester and 12 degree programs.

The College is essential to the community in that it provides an opportunity for everyone to learn. The Cerro Coso Community College is dedicated to supporting courses, programs and services of Cerro Coso Community College.

The Foundation which was established in 1977 operates as an auxiliary arm of the College. The Foundation is financed through fees, profits from fundraising events, donations and other contributions. In the past, the Foundation has sought grants from government agencies and other organizations to help finance Foundation projects.
